Many motorists prefer to do some of the car maintenance work on their own, rather than go to a car repair shop every time. This approach allows you not only to get to know your car better, but also to save a lot on repairs. One of these types of work, which is often done on our own, is the replacement of brake pads and scrap cars for cash.
Some drivers forget about such an important thing when replacing pads, such as returning the cylinders in the brake caliper to their original position. The fact is that on worn pads, the cylinders are significantly extended from the caliper, which will not allow assembling the brake mechanism with new pads.
Cleaning from dirt
When performing service work on the brakes, do not ignore the importance of cleaning the mechanisms from dirt. It is necessary to clean off all contamination not only from metal parts, but also from hoses to prevent them from drying out.
When replacing brake pads, it is imperative to renew the lubricant in the guides, as well as check the condition of the rubber boots. If this is not done, the resulting corrosion will lead to wedging of the brakes when the pads are flattened, in addition, the friction linings will have uneven wear.
It is imperative to check the level of the brake fluid in the expansion tank and, if necessary, top up to the required marks. It is also advisable to completely change the brake fluid every 2-3 years, since during this time it loses some of its properties.
